Step 7 of 10 · 2. How it works

Shoppers, privacy and data

What's kept about shoppers, why only their phone number is asked for, and who can see it.

Shoppers are the people at the stand who buy, try a sample or play a game. They have no account and never sign in.

What's kept about a shopper

Only their phone number. No name, age, gender, email or address is asked for or kept.

With the phone number, Moments Analytics keeps what happened at the stand:

  • what they bought and how they paid;
  • the promo items they were given, and the games they played and won;
  • the stars they gave, if they rated the product.

Why the phone number

The phone number lets the platform:

  • send codes: promo item codes, prize codes and game links arrive by SMS;
  • keep things fair: one product sample per person in each activation, and a limit on how often each person plays a game;
  • count people, not visits: someone who buys, tries a sample and plays counts once in People reached;
  • show whether trying led to buying: the same number, from a sample or a game to a paid sale.

What shoppers are sent

Only messages they asked for at the stand: their promo item code, their prize code, or their game link. Moments Analytics doesn't send shoppers marketing messages. See Every SMS and email we send.

Before a promoter unlocks a game, they must tick that the shopper agreed to get the game SMS.

Who can see a shopper's number

RoleSees the number?
Admins and managersYes, on sales and promo items, and in their Excel downloads
PromotersOnly on the sales and promo items they record
Brand viewersNo. Their reports show totals only
Other agencies and brandsNo

At the stand

  • Every sale, promo item and game needs the shopper's phone number.
  • Say what it's for when you ask: "for your code by SMS", or "so we count you once".
  • Type it straight into the Promoter Portal. Don't write numbers down anywhere else.
